At this time, we encourage our patients to begin wearing supportive bras during the day. Be sure to get sized before purchasing a post breast augmentation bra in order to ensure that you have the right size and support needed to support your breasts long term. Underwire bras are acceptable as long at they fit the implant and do not “dig in”. There is not one brand or style that we recommend. Any brand should do as long as you get a “pop” or “push up” from the bra. This demonstrates that the bra is supporting the weight of the implant, instead of the skin.
It is also important that when exercising or sleeping you do not wear tight fitting sports bras that just “smash” or compress your breasts. When you had natural breasts, the tighter the sports bra, the better it was. Now with implants, you need side and bottom support from the sports bra. When choosing a sports bra after breast augmentation surgery, we recommend a sports bra with a built in bra or cups that will contain and support the weight of the implant. We find a sports bra similar to the VSX line at Victoria’s Secret that is padded and has an underwire supports the best. We encourage you to support your breasts 24/7 in order for you to continue to love your breasts long into the future. Wear your surgical sports bra (or similarly supportive bra) at night for at least 3 months.
This is one of the most important pieces of having a successful breast augmentation now and in the years to come. Massage keeps your breasts soft and fine tunes your results. If you do not massage, your breasts will become firm and uneven. We recommend you to massage AT LEAST twice a day. We went over massage techniques at your appointment. Pinch bottom of both breasts in shower 10x for 10secs, as instructed, daily. If you have questions please let us know.
ALEVE (Naproxen) 220mg 2x/daily for 4 weeks can help reduce soreness and inflammation to allow for more aggressive massage.
Two weeks post op:
You may begin NON IMPACT cardio. This includes walking on a treadmill, using the elliptical machine without the use of your arms, stair climber, stationary bike, etc… Weight restrictions include not lifting anything over 10-15 pounds. No legs, core, chest, arms or upper back exercises allowed.
Two months post op:
You may begin MODERATE IMPACT cardio, such as light jogging and workout classes like Zumba. Core and leg work is also allowed. Still no chest, arms, shoulder or upper back training.
Three months post op:
You are unrestricted at this point, but remember to start slow with low weight (low means 2-3lbs!) and high repetitions. Do not do anything too fast or too heavy! Start doing push ups against a wall/counter, then knees and finally progress to the floor. Use resistance bands instead of pull ups. If you do Crossfit or have a trainer, start with a modified workout. REMEMBER LIGHT WEIGHT AND HIGH REPS!
Now that your Steri-Strips are off, you can start caring for your incisions. The only scar treatment that has been proven to work is Silicone Strips worn 24/7 for 8 weeks minimum. Lotions and creams like Mederma are not proven to improve the look of the scar. If you don’t want to commit to long term treatment like the Silicone Strips, we recommend using any lotion that is good for your skin (Vitamin E, Cocoa Butter, Aloe, etc.) and lotion your breast and scars twice daily. Rub the incision back and forth or in little circles for 90 seconds. This will help break up the scar tissue and improve the look of your scars.
Continue to sleep on your back for another 12 weeks. If you sleep on your side after 12 weeks, please wear a bra at night. This will support your breasts and maintain your implants centered on your nipples. Do not sleep on your stomach, this will cause your breast implants to go into your armpits.
Remember, if your breasts are headed south towards your belly button, you need more support during the day; If they are going into your armpits, you need more support at night.

Post Breast Augmentation Bra Fitment Tips
The band should fit nice and snug underneath your breasts/implants on the loosest to middle hook. The number in the bra size (32, 34, 36 etc.) affects this portion of the fit. If the band is loose, or “rides up” onto your breast the number is too large.
The underwire (if applicable) and cup should fit nicely around the new shape of the bottom of your breast without poking, spilling, gaping or digging into the skin/implant. The bra mark should be even and just below your breast, matching the roundness and width of breast/implant.
The center panel in your cleavage should lay flat against your breast bone, with no gap. If it does not lay flat the cup is too small.
